Sustainability

Since computers were invented the environmental and economic factors have become of a poorer quality due to the amount of electricity we use which has created green house gases to rise dramatically. As technology gets better and people buy more improved and up-to-date computers no one knows what to do with the old ones, this creates a problem within the environment as harmful materials and acids would be randomly thrown out into the open. (Weee Directive) Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive, this company recovers and recycles electronic and component materials all over Europe to reduce the amount of harmful materials infesting the world.

How we spend our free time?
I spend my free time playing football and a various amounts of other sports, I also like to socialise over Facebook, play games over the Xbox, going out with friends and listening to music. Before in the 80’s people used to get entertained through watching the TV, nowadays teenagers and older people mostly use their free time on the net and solicalisng websites to connect with other friends and family.  Others ways people use their free time playing computer, Xbox, PS3 games. My parents when younger used to spend their free time meeting up with friends and playing certain games such as hide and seek tag and football games. My parents explained how spending their free time is much more interesting and better now than when they were younger because technology has improved and is fairly cheap to invest in, this keeps them entertained when bored and have spare time.

Denial of service

(DoS) This is a way to make the computers services and programmes unavailable to the owner of the computer. Denial of service prevents from providing service to customers, It is when they get an overwhelming number of people trying to access a site so the site then collapses. Attackers usually target high-profile places such as banks payment gateways, and some times root name servers. This method is used to prevent a web server from providing a service, this is done by overwhelming with allot of request, this makes it struggle and unable to cope. There are many reasons why these attacks are done, a reason may be because a criminal may want to blackmail a company and attack their site unless they hand over a ransom .

To prevent this from happening there's a software programme called  'dotDefender', this programme controls and inspects your HTTP traffic, and frequently checks their packets against rules that allows or deny s protocols etc... The IP address is there to stop web application from being exposed. dofDefender is a very unique software that is created to teach users the specific threats that exist on the web application. The company and software that runs this programme specifically focuses on analyzing the impacts it has on the application.  The security on the web application is usually based with three powerful web application security engines.

Phishing

Phishing is a criminal method of trying to trick people into handing over their online and security passwords, they usually want the details and passwords of your banks and other important data. The scam that is created by criminals is made to look like emails which makes people thinks its been sent by their bank. The scam will usually involve a link under the email that makes the readers believe they have to click on it, after that the link will take them to a website that asks them to write their email and password ( the link will look like their online bank account). The link attached to the email is under the criminals controls so the details and password the victim types in the criminal gets hold of straight away. The criminal then takes advantage of all the details he gets and uses it to steal money from the victims bank accounts.

To prevent being a victim of phishing make sure you never go on to links from an email claiming to be from your bank. This is the most common way criminals get hold of details so ignore going on to the link and typing in any details. Make sure if you ever get a link from your email asking your to sign in make sure the website is verified and genuine, if your not sure you can call customer services and ask if the email is common practice, if they say its not then tell them about the email and they will get rid of it for you. Another step for protection is to install a good Anti - Virus programme, some great products that will insure your computers fully protected from viruses is the AVG Free programme, Avast, Zone Alarm etc...

Spam

Spam consists of sending junk emails to other people over the emailing system, it disrupts the computer and makes it run slower. An example is companies or random people sending advertisements and random emails to your email, this will cause your Hotmail to fill up, many spam emails may contain viruses so its very important to sport the genuine emails from the spam emails.  You can also receive text message spam which is a text message saying you can receive money if you text back to the message, other spams are instant message spam also know as 'asspim'.

Spam can be very annoying but sometimes harmless, on the other hand it also has a key role in identity theft and fraud, this manages to take hold of the public's identity  and will be used in criminal activities. This is usually known as phishing scam.

The best ways to prevent spam is by stop posting your email address on websites because 95% of spam is generally sent by the public, avoid certain sites and some software programs like Yahoo chat and IRC because many spammers are always actively mining all types of popular chat rooms.

Cyber bullying

Cyber bullying is a very important problem over the net that neds to be monitored carefully, its a very worrying problem for both young people and parents. Cyber bullying includes tormenting and aggressive behaviour towards another person over the net, this can be over 'Facebook', 'Twitter', 'Tumblr', emailing and chat rooms etc... Cyber bullies are sometimes encouraged or encourage people to participate into cyber bullying.

Cyber bullying is a very serious matter with the police and if it gets to a certain point for some people it cause result in suicide. Cyber bullying is taken very serious in schools and other places, so if its ever noticed it will be dealt with very seriously.

To prevent cyber bullying make sure you look after your personal information and never give out any personal information online, whether its in chat rooms, social networking sites, or blogs. Another important thing to never give out your password to any one even friends, only parents if your feel safe giving it to them. If anyone ever send you a aggressive message, don't reply aggressively because that it what will cause an argument and will result in someone being bullied, save the message and show a adult. Another thing is to not put anything online that you don't want anyone to see such as classmates etc...

Global implications

Global Implications is a problem for the people who live in the less economically and developed countries, this means they struggle to get access to the internet,  many people all over the world rely on the internet to study and receive information, for the people who don't have easy access to the internet are in danger of not being up to date with the world and important information. There is a difference between the people with easy access to the internet and the people without easy internet access, this is called digital divide.  The countries with out easy internet access are mainly the countries in the African continent such as Somalia, Nigeria, Sudan, and Ethiopia etc...

There have been many projects set up to prevent the digital divide, one of these are ''50x15'' this was created to help the people suffering in Haiti by providing them with lost cost solution to help long term.
